Last year I had a nightmare that was so real—so living and breathing and urgent—that it took me days to work up the courage to examine it.
In this dream, I’ve just been swallowed by a massive wave. The substance that has engulfed me is water, but it also is not. (You know how it is with dreams.) I was in total, complete darkness—no light whatsoever—but I could see, or feel, the wave approaching.
